Constable arrested in Hyderabad for raping, impregnating woman on pretext of marriage

HYDERABAD: A Nikhil, an AR constable deputed to the Hyderabad city police has been arrested on charges of raping a 21-year-old woman and impregnating her on the pretext of marrying her. C. Harishchandra Reddy, Inspector of Panjagutta said Nikhil has been produced before the court and sent to judicial remand on Friday.

According to police, the victim met Nikhil through common friends. After knowing each other for a while, they entered into a relationship. After a while, Nikhil promised to marry her.

In November 2022 on the occasion of his birthday, Nikhil asked the victim to meet him in a room where he forced himself on her and sexually assaulted her, assuring that he would marry her. After that also, he sexually assaulted her without consent on multiple occasions, she told the police.

Later, he gradually started distancing her. When she confronted him, he threatened her saying that he is a police man and even if she complained, nothing would happen to him, the victim told police.

Meanwhile, two and half months ago, he called her to his room to settle the matter and when she went to meet him, he again assaulted her sexually. As a result, the victim became pregnant. When she informed him, he denied her request.

Upset, the victim approached Hyderabad SHE teams. Learning about this, Nikihil contacted her and promised to marry her, but later he forced her to consume pills for aborting her pregnancy.

On her complaint, police registered a case against NIkhil and arrested her. The victim was also sent for medical examination.
