Woman ends life over harrasement for additional dowry

Hyderabad: Allegedly harassed for additional dowry by her husband B. Chandrashekar, 22-year-old B. Kavitha died by suicide in Katedan, Mailardevpally police said.

The couple got married in November 2022. Her brother Golla Yaganti said the family gave Rs 10 lakh and 15 tolas gold as dowry to Chandrashekar, an oil company employee.

The husband began an affair with another woman and demanded Rs 20 lakh from Kavitha to end it. She called her brother on Tuesday night saying she was being tortured, but cut the call. When Yaganti called Chandrashekar, he said that Kavitha had died by suicide.

Hyderabad: The Mominpet police of Vikarabad arrested eight persons for running over a man identified as Meghawath Vittal with a vehicle and dragging his body for one kilometre, over a family dispute on March 2.

The arrested persons were identified as Meghawath Pavan, Meghawath Motilal, Meghawath Narender, Mohammed Salman, Banowath Jaipal, Jumju Raju, Mangali Naresh and Devasu Ramesh.

Vikarabad SP N. Koti Reddy said that Motilal tried to sell his two acres of land at Lachanaik thanda of Mominpet but Vittal objected and got te registration stopped. Vittal then sold the property without the knowledge of Motilal and his family.

The accused decided to kill Vittal and make it look like a road accident. They hit the victm with their vehicle and dragged the body. Vittal's wife lodged a complaint with Mominpet police.

Hyderabad: The Sultan Bazaar police on Thursday arrested BRS leader Gaddam Srinivas Yadav, former chairman of the Telangana Grandhalaya Parishad, for allegedly abusing Dr M. Vijjulatha, Vice Chancellor of the Telangana Mahila Viswavidyalayam (formerly the Women’s College) at Koti. Yadav is also the chairman of Hyndavi group of educational institutions.

He was booked for assault, insulting modesty and criminal intimidation, Sultan Bazar sub-inspector G. Madhusudhan said.

Police said that on July 1, Yadav entered the VC’s office and told Dr Vijjulatha to felicitate him as he was doing social work and giving free education and scholarships to girl students, as he is also a contender for a MLA ticket from Goshamahal.

While accepting his request to felicitate him, she asked him to find a sponsor for some university student. He abused her at this, police said.

Based on a complaint from Dr Vijjulatha on July 4, police registered a case and arrested the BRS leader on Thursday. Further investigation in the case is in process, the police said.

Hyderabad: Narsingi police arrested the owner of the car, Abdul Rehman, that rammed into a mother and her daughter who were on their morning walk on July 4, killing them on the spot.

The 19-year-old driver Badiuddin Quadri was reportedly driving the car at 130 kmph when it hit the victims at Bandlaguda.

To cross-check Badidduin’s statement that he along with Ibrahim, Ganesh and Faizan were going to a friend’s farmhouse in Moinabad to celebrate his birthday, the police team visited to farm house the same day and beer and liquir. Badiuddin’s friends on the coming to know of the accident fled from the farm house, police sources disclosed.

Rehman and Badiuddin are in police custody, police said.

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police commissioner unveiled a procedural handbook on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,1985, here on Thursday, and said it would be very useful for officers investigating narcotics cases. It includes information on important legal provisions, investigation methods and procedures related to the NDPS Act. The handbook was possible with the collaboration of the NDPS cell Cyberabad, he said.

Hyderabad: Rachakonda cybercrime police arrested a 28-year-old woman, Sarakam Gouri Sarika Venkata Nukambikha of Visakhapatnam, for cheating people. Police said she persuaded a prominent social media influencer to promote her page, where she sold things online. Some 150 persons paid Rs 10 lakh to Sarika to buy products. When the products were not delivered, she went to the police.

Nizamabad: Bhojanna, 52, of Ailapur in Nandipet mandal died in a road accident in Bahrain, where he had gone to work. The incident occurred on June 24 but he was identified only on Thursday after the Bahrain police released pictures of the victim. Bhojanna is survived by his wife, son and daughter. He had performed the marriage of his daughter last year. The Indian diaspora in Bahrain extended their support to send the body to his native place. It is expected to reach home on July 8.

Hyderabad: A speeding van hit two women who were working on the Outer Right Road at Keesera on Thursday night, killing them on the spot. Police said G. Tippamma, 43, and K. Lingamma, 42, were cleaning garbage at the railing when the van from Shamshabad hit them. They were rushed to a local hospital where the doctors declared them dead.

There were two out of the four fatalities in road accidents on Wednesday night and Thursday, including a food delivery agent.

Thirty-year-old Swiggy delivery agent Akula Durga Prasad was hit by a water tanker near Cyber Towers, Madhapur police said. Prasad, a resident of Bharatnagar, Moosapet, started for delivery from his house at 11 am. A native of Kakinada, he had come to the city along with his wife Akula Padmavati five years back.

In a separate accident a 22-year-old lawn tennis coach, Kammari Ravi, succumbed to injuries after he accidentally fell from his bike at Nanakramguda on Wednesday night. Raidurgam police said he was returning to his village in Azamabad, Kamareddy, when he lost control over the bike and fell on the road at 10 pm. He was rushed to Osmania General Hospital where the doctors at emergency declared him dead.

Raidurgam police registered a case of suspicious death and shifted the victim’s body to Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem.

Hyderabad: The SIT investigating the TSPSC question paper leakage arrested two more persons — private college staffers R. Venkateshwar Rao and Vishwaprakash — in Karimnagar, on Thursday, taking the total number of arrests to 53.

The duo with the help of another arrested accused, P. Ramesh, an ex employee of the northern discom, had supplied question papers of the AE, DAO and AEE exams to several candidates.

SIT officials confirmed that financial transactions happened between the duo and Ramesh for supplying the question paper and they had in turn collected huge amounts from the candidates. Officials said they are in the process of identifying the candidates and others who were associated with the duo and Ramesh in the scam.

The SIT which began the probe in March and filed a preliminary charge sheet in the case on June 9, is in the process of filing the next chargesheet once they received reports from the Forensic Science Laboratory in connection with the computers seized from the TSPSC, as well as gadgets seized from the prime accused Pulidindi Praveen Kumar, an assistant section officer and PA to the commission secretary, as well as Atla Raja Shekar, an outsourcing employee working as a network administrator in the TSPSC.
