Kottayam: Putting Jalandhar bishop Franko Mulakkal in further trouble, two letters allegedly written by the nun of the Missionaries of Jesus to the Apostolic Nuncio of Vatican in Delhi in January 28 and June 24 have come out in which she had raised the charges of sexual abuse and mental harassment by the bishop.
The letters were addressed to Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro, the Nuncio of Vatican to India.
The letters are likely to embarrass the Vatican as well, as the nun sent the second letter after getting no reply for the first one, indicating an attempt by the representative of the Holy See to gloss over the serious complaints. In one of the letters, the nun said the Bishop had twice called her to his room and sexually abused her and insulted her and her family.
In the complaint given to the Nuncio via the Bishop of Bhagalpur Kurian Valiakandathil, the nun asked the nuncio what action he had taken on the complaint of mental harassment and sexual assault she was subjected to by the bishop.She said she was devastated mentally and was undergoing treatment.
Levelling serious allegations that the bishop and his supporters were trying to sabotage the case, the nun said the bishop had unleashed defamatory remarks against her and family through the Public Relations Officer of the diocese Father Peter Kavumpuram.
She also said the bishop gave a fake complaint that her brother was planning to murder him. The nun alleged that the bishop lodged a complaint against her at the Kuravilangadu police station also.
