THANJAVUR: Two students reportedly drowned in Kollidam and Pazhavar in two separate incidents near Kumbakonam, on Sunday night.
The victims were identified as Mohammed Nizar (17), son of Nizamaideen, native of Vilanthakandam near Kumbakonamn and Jenin Gregory (15), son of Martin of Ammanpettai, near Thiruvidaimaruthur.
According to police, Nizar a polytechnic college student, went with his friends Fakrudheen, Fisal and two others to Kollidam river at Maharajapuram on Sunday evening for a bath, but was washed away by the current. His friends informed his parents about the mishap.
Fire and Rescue Services personnel traced the body on Monday morning after a hectic search. Thiruppanandal police registered a case.In the second incident, Gregory, a standard 10 student, went to fetch water in the river from Pazhavar village, but was washed away by the waters.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel retrieved the body, and Thiruvidaimaruthur police registered a case.
