Chittoor police busts drug racket, Sudanese national among six arrested

TIRUPATI: With the arrest of a foreign drug peddler and five others, the Chittoor Town-II police on Monday busted a drug racket operating from the outskirts of the district headquarters.

The police seized 34-gram MDMA (Methamphetamine) crystals worth Rs 2 lakh from the accused.

Disclosing the details, Chittoor SP Rishanth Reddy said the police got specific inputs from reliable sources, after which teams have been formed to keep a vigil during the last few days.

“Acting on information that sale of psychotropic substances was taking place near Iruvaram locality on the city outskirts, the Chittoor II town police along with local tahsildar tried to arrest eight persons in the morning.

While two of the accused managed to abscond, six persons including a Sudanese national were arrested and 34 grams of MDMA worth `2 lakh seized from their possession.

The arrested were K. Siraj (37) of Thavanampalle mandal, Ahmed Omar Ahmed Sayyed (28) of Sudan, K Suresh (25), S Jayashankar (32), C Pratap (26) and S Teja Kumar (22), all residents of Chittoor town. The police also arrested three others - Venkatesh, Mohan and Murali, who were part of the gang.

Police said that Ahmed Omar Ahmed Sayyed belonged to Al-Mazad, Bahry, North Khartoum city. He came to India on a student visa in 2013 and has been staying in Bengaluru since then.

Some of the arrested had already been booked in drug peddling cases in Bengaluru and other criminal cases in Chittoor district.
