Gujarat orphan turns burglar, arrested with stolen gold
Anantapur: The police here have arrested Vikki alias Shamir, 19, a native of Gujarat who had fled his house at the age of 6, took shelter at an orphanage here and ended up as a burglar.
He had studied upto Class X before he took to crime. Police recovered Rs. 32 lakh worth of burgled gold ornaments from him.
SP Anburajan told the media that Vikki alias Shamir was a native of Surath city. At age 6, he left home, got into a train and landed in Anantapur. Police rescue teams noticed his presence in the town and put him at an orphanage in Vijayanagar colony. He was admitted to Rajendra Municipal High School where he studied up to Class X.
Later, he was shifted to a rescue home in Kadapa, from where he fled, returned to Anantapur and started working as a cleaner in a hotel.
Vikki wanted to lead a lavish life. He became a burglar and targeted houses in the city. He broke into homes, burgled gold ornaments thrice - on Oct 15, 22 and 27. He took away gold worth Rs 32 lakh from the house of Adiseshaiah Guptha on the second road in Anantapur.
The police tracked the movements of the burglar based on CCTV footage and arrested Vikki from the Anantapur railway station premises on Monday. They recovered gold ornaments and a cash of Rs 2,000 from him.
SP Anburajan advised the public to make use of the Locked House Monitoring System being offered free to city residents by the police department. “A separate App is available to avail the system,” he said.
Meanwhile, the I Town police recovered 14 stolen motorcycles and arrested three persons.
