Hyderabad: 4 drug peddlers held, Rs 84L worth ganja seized
Hyderabad: Special teams of Nalgonda Police arrested four inter-state ganja peddlers and seized 336 kg of the contraband, worth '84 lakh in the black market, at the AP-TS border checkpost in Nagarjunasagar on Monday.
Other than the marjijuana, the DCM used in transporting the contraband and four mobile phones were also seized.
Nalagonda SP Chandana Deepti said, “Based on a a tip-off, our teams intercepted the DCM van transporting the contraband from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra.”
The arrested were identified as G.A. Ghore, Ganapati Basvaraj Sonal, Sangmeshwara Sada Shiva Jangane and Qayyom Ishake Lamani, who are from Bidar (Karnataka) and Latur (Maharashtra).
During interrogation, Ghore said another accused drug peddler, Jaipal, had arranged the meeting to purchase the ganja.
Jaipal had promised each of the arrested persons '1 lakh for a trip for bringing the marijuana from Vizianagaram to Maharashtra, Ghore said. Jaipal is currently absconding.“The arrested took the route from Warangal via Macherla then Guntur to enter Maharashtra, when our team intercepted them,” the SP said.
“We cannot deny that a huge amount of ganja is being supplied from Andhra Pradesh via the city to Maharashtra and other states. If the public can provide any information on drug peddling and consumption, they should dial 100 or directly report to the nearest police station,” the SP said.
The accused were handed over to Vijayapuri Town Police and later were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. A case under sections 20(b)(ii)(c) of NDPS Act-1985 was filed.
