Nouman Jameel had links with ISIS
Hyderabad: A civil engineer from Mukarampura in Karimnagar town in Telangana, who had gone missing earlier and had been traced and counselled for his attempts to join the terror outfit ISIS, is once again under the scanner of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and other anti-terror agencies of Telangana State. The NIA has booked cases against eight men from Tamil Nadu and 23-year-old Nouman Jameel from Karimnagar, for their alleged links with ISIS, and hatching a conspiracy to carry out subversive activities in Chennai and other parts of the country.
Nouman Jameel, who was let off after counselling in 2016, had alleged at a press conference at that time that the NIA was forcing him to turn witness against another accused in another ISIS-related case. Jameel was one of the first youths from Telangana State to get in touch with Shafi Armar, the Indian head of ISIS, operating from Syria, a police officer said. Jameel is also linked to Haja Fakruddin from Tamil Nadu, who was one of the earliest to go to Syria to fight for ISIS. Police sources say that Jameel's account in a Telangana bank was used to fund suspected ISIS activities. New evidence.
Tamil Nadu police sources said that Fakruddin and another suspect, Kaja Moideen, who is now lodged in Salem prison, are accused of masterminding the murder of Hindu Munnani activist K P Suresh Kumar in Chennai in July 2014. Are they among the 8 charged with jaleel? So is the charge against the 8 for ISIS or killing suresh kumar? Fakruddin, who is from Parnagipettai in Cuddalore district, was working in Singapore when he got attracted to ISIS and went to Syria. “We believe that he is still in Syria,” NIA sources in Tamil Nadu said. told DC.
Apart from Fakruddin and Moideen, six others were also arrested for the murder of Suresh Kumar, president of the Tiruvallur East unit of Hindu Munnani. Police say he was murdered after he gave an inflammatory speech at a public gathering in Avadi in December 2013. Again, is this the current charge against them? Of the eight men figuring in the FIR, only Haja Fakruddin managed to reach Syria. "Two others had gone to Turkey and came back. They claim that it was a business trip," police sources said. All the others figuring in the NIA's FIR provided logistic support to Haja Fakruddin and Kaja Moideen.
When he was picked up by the NIA in 2016, Nouman had alleged at a press conference that he and another man Adnan Ahmed of Chandrayanagutta were forced to give witness against 11 youth picked up by the NIA in June 2016 even though they didn't know them. Nouman had said that he wanted to pursue higher education and was counselled and released but is now back in police custody.
