H-New will be located in the CP Office, under the charge of a DCP, two inspectors, four SIs and 20 police constables

Hyderabad: With a view to curbing the drug peddling menace, city police commissioner CV Anand has formed two new wings to register cases, investigate and obtain details regarding drug peddling activities.

These are the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-New) and the Narcotics Investigation Supervision Wing (NISW). DGP Mahendar Reddy would launch the two wings in the presence of police officers on Wednesday.

Anand said the city police are implementing the decision of the state government to crack down on narcotic drugs gangs.

"H-New will be located in the CP Office, under the charge of a DCP, two inspectors, four SIs and 20 police constables and function on the lines of CP’s Task Force in generating intelligence, organising raids, as also in detection of organised drug trafficking groups and suppliers, peddlers and consumers. It would also maintain data banks.

It is being provided with adequate infrastructure, vehicles and funds. Dedicated phone numbers will be given to the public to pass on information," Anand said.

The PC said the investigation of NDPS Act cases are quite complicated and it has rigorous procedures. A Narcotics Investigation Supervision Wing (NISW) is also being started by Hyderabad City Police with a staff of one ACP, one inspector, one SI and six police constables or head constables.

The staff would support, monitor and assist the local police station in arrests, remands, seizures, charge sheeting and helping in the trial till conviction is achieved. They would also train the base units being created in all the police stations.

Recently, chief minister Chandrashekar Rao held a meeting with officials of the police, excise and other departments and called for a crackdown against drug peddling activities in the state.
