YSRC worker arrested for anganwadi worker's death
TIRUPATI: Prakasam district police on Wednesday arrested prime accused Savalam Kondal Rao for the murder of an anganwadi worker Savalam Hanumayamma at Raavivaripalem SC Colony in Tangutur mandal.
Hanumayamma died on the spot after she had been run over by a tractor on Monday while returning home from work, which led to charges of a conspiracy.
The anganwadi worker’s husband Sudhakar Rao is vice president of Telugu Desam's Kondapi SC Cell. He is a supporter of MLA Dr. Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy.
On Monday, YSRC leader of the area V. Ashok Babu had called for a “Chembu Yatra” from Tangutur to MLA Swamy’s house in Thurpu Naidupalem. Sudhakar had gone to the legislator’s house in support of his leader. It was during this time that Hanumayamma was run over by a tractor.
Superintendent of police Malika Garg told media that Sudhakar and Kondal Rao have been rivals since 2007. They have registered cases against each other. “As per the complainant Sudhakar, Kondal Rao had threatened Hanumayamma two days before the murder. On Monday, he crushed her to death under a tractor,” the SP stated.
Following Hanumayamma’s death, the SP formed a special team, which arrested Kondal Rao at Maddipadu flyover on Wednesday. In his statement, Kondal Rao alleged that Hanumayamma had been spreading rumours about his mother and also abused him frequently. The resentment made Kondal Rao run his tractor over Hanumayamma, killing her instantly.
Kondapi MLA Swamy and other TD leaders protested at Ongole GGH demanding justice for Hanumayamma's family. TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu also wrote to various national commissions, asking them to investigate the case.
Following this, DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy intervened and ordered the SP to form a special team for arresting the accused.
