Minicoy child abuse case: Five more victims to give statements
KOCHI: The child sex abuse case involving a Minicoy native is unraveling in a curious way with five more victims being summoned to Kavaratti to give statement under Section 164 of CrPC before the magistrate, it is learnt. The step is understood to be in the aftermath of the intervention of the The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights into the issue which sought a report from the Superintendent of Police, Lakshadweep, in this regard.
According to certain natives of the island, it is also in the aftermath of the change in the investigating officer in the case, the local sub-inspector Ameer Bin Muhammed. However, despite widespread resentment among Minicoy natives against him over the police atrocities unleashed on them by the team led by Ameer, the SI is understood to have been rehabilitated by the administration in another island Chetlat after a brief period of suspension. K.K. Ragesh MP also had taken up the issue with the Lakshadweep administration.
The administration is yet to order a CBI inquiry into the child sex abuse case or a judicial inquiry into the police atrocities despite popular demand in this regard at Minicoy. Now the Kavarathi CI is understood to be holding investigation into the child sex abuse case who is learnt to have summoned the five children. Minicoy native K Moosa is the prime accused in the case who was arrested from Nedumbassery airport in August by Lakshadweep police on his return from Doha.
