Chain snatcher caught red-handed in Salem
Salem: Members of the public caught hold of a robber, when he attempted to snatch a gold chain from a woman at Salem bus stand premises on Thursday. Ms. Vasanthi, 37, from Kondalampatti was waiting at Salem old bus stand for a bus around 7 am on Thursday, when a motorbike-borne man came close to her and tired to snatch her chain.
However, she held on firmly and shouted for help. A head constable, Dhanaseelan, who crossed the spot, rushed to her help and caught him red-handed. He was identified as Ilangovan,38, from Annathanapatti and was sent for remand after registering a case against him. In a similar chain-snatching incident, 40-year-old Ms. Jeyanthi, working as clerk in a nationalized bank, lost her six sovereigns chain to the handiwork of a moped rider in the city. Alagapuram police registered a case and are investigating.
