Shadnagar hit and run turns out to be murder

HYDERABAD: A hit and run accident case reported at Shadnagar in 2021, turned out to be a murder. Police arrested four including a head constable in connection with the case. After a year to the ‘accident’, when the main accused Boda Srikanth, approached the Insurance firm to claim insurance, the firm grew suspicious and alerted the police, as Srikanth was not at all related to the victim Bikshapathi. Meanwhile, police who were already enquiring into the accident also gathered some leads about the victim based on the technical evidence.

“Connecting all the dots, when the suspects were picked up and questioned, they admitted to have killed the victim Edla Bikshapathi to claim the life insurance and also a house registered on the victim’s name at Uppal,” said DCP Shamshabad R Jagadishwar Reddy.

Srikanth is a habitual offender involved in cheating cases. He was last arrested by Rachakonda police for duping a private bank to the tune of Rs 1.30 Crore by floating a fake firm, preparing records showing the firm has over 50 employees and obtaining credit cards in their names.

In October 2021, he purchased a life insurance policy for Rs 50 lakh on the victim Bikshapathi’s name and also obtained a home loan at Uppal on latter's name. He also got the house insured. For both policies, he named himself as the nominee.

Bikshapathi had no relatives and he was working for Srikanth. Taking this an advantage, he obtained signatures from Bikshapathi on insurance documents. Meanwhile, he slipped into a financial crisis. To overcome it, he along with Jatawath Motilal, a Head constable, CCS Balanagar and other accused Banoth Sammanna and Chaganti Satish made a plan to kill Bikshapathi and share his insurance benefits.

Police said Motilal was also earlier arrested in an extortion case. Even before they claimed the insurance claim, police cracked the case and arrested the accused.
