Rs 98.68 Lakh Worth of Gold Concealed in Passenger's Body at Mangaluru Airport
Mangaluru: In a significant interception at Mangaluru Airport, customs officials have successfully confiscated gold valued at Rs 98.68 lakh from a passenger arriving from Abu Dhabi.
On January 8, the suspicious movements of a traveler on Air India Express flight IX 816 triggered the attention of Mangaluru Customs officers.
The customs officers intercepted the passenger, subjecting him to a thorough frisking. During the examination, a beep sound emanated from the pelvic region. The passenger had concealed 1579 grams of 24-carat gold, in paste form, within five oval-shaped objects hidden in his rectum.
The seized gold, with a purity of 24 carats, weighed a total of 1579 grams (net), amounting to a value of Rs. 98,68,750.
The passenger was apprehended and presented before the Magistrate for further legal proceedings.
