Kochi: New Deputy Superintendent of Police takes over probe on salon firing

The new Deputy Superintendent of Police took over the case related documents on thursday and started investigation.

Kochi: Crime Branch Deputy Superintendent of Police Josy Cherian has taken over the charge as investigating officer in the beauty salon firing incident that happened on December 15.

As part of a major revamp in the Kerala police department, the former investigating officer ACP P.P. Shams was transferred to another location.

The new Deputy Superintendent of Police took over the case related documents on Thursday and started investigation. According to Mr. Cherian, apart from two unidentified persons, gangster Ravi Pujari has been indicted as the third accused in the case.

As the unidentified miscreants fired multiple gunshots at the spot and the accused gangster has made threatening calls to actress Leena Maria Paul, the owner of the nail beauty salon, section 387 of IPC (Putting person in fear of death or of grievous hurt, in order to commit extortion) has been included in the case, officials said.

It was on December 15, two bike borne assailants fired an air pistol near the salon at Panampilly Nagar and left behind a paper with Ravi Pujari inscribed on it at the spot.
