KOZHIKODE: Suhail Thangal alias Bavakka alias Sameer, aged 47, who hails from Muttil in Wayanad, is the most notorious sex kingpin in Kozhikode. He is not only involved in the flesh trade here but went to the extent of bringing women from Bangladesh by promising jobs. His client list includes many powerful persons from different walks of life.
According to the report submitted by former city police commissioner, P.A Valsan, who recommended slapping KAAPA against Thangal, he is involved in three sex trafficking cases in the last seven years in the city limits alone.
It is learned that Thangal is involved in many cases in Wayanad and Malappuram. Thangal and his wife Ambika alias Sajitha are the second and third accused in the case of the flesh trade involving 34-year Bangladeshi woman at their apartment in Eranjipalam last year. Both were sentenced to five and three years imprisonment in the case on Friday.
The Bangladeshi woman who was rescued from the apartment had told police that there were other girls who were also brought there for the sex trade. The woman, who underwent nine days of torture in the apartment had also deposed that those who exploited her include doctors and lawyers.
Last year, Medical College Police had rescued a 17-year-old Bangladeshi girl, whom Thangal hired for Rs 20,000 from Mumbai for three weeks from another sex racket. “He is that kind of criminal that used to lure the girls who had been rescued from his custody and sheltered at care homes, to re-enter the business making false promises,” a senior police officer said.
Four Bangladeshi women, now at government women’s home, were brought here for the flesh trade by Thangal promising employment. Thanks to the High Court’s intervention, the district collector is expected to slap KAPPA act on the notorious kingpin.
