BALANGIR: In an instance of extreme inhumane treatment of senior citizens, a 75-year-old Odisha woman was dragged on the road and assaulted by her daughter-in-law at Talapali village under Gaisilat block in Bargarh district on Thursday.
The incident came to the fore on Friday after video of the incident went viral on social media. The incident has sparked a public outcry with social activist Namrata Chaddha demanding strict against the accused woman.
“An attempt-to-murder case should be lodged against the woman,” said Ms Chaddha. “Besides, the husband of the accused woman should also be arrested for supporting the act of his wife.”
The local police, meanwhile, registered a case and arrested the accused Balamati Sahu and produced her before the local court. According to reports, Balamati dragged her mother-in-law Padmabati Sahu on the road and thrashed her mercilessly over land dispute.
“Basing on the complaint filed in connection with the incident, we registered a case and subsequently arrested Balamati. Our investigation in connection with the incident is on," assistant superintendent of police Jasobanta Senapati said.
