Initial Falaknuma Express Fire Probe Points to Short Circuit

Hyderabad: Prima facie probe revealed an electric short circuit had led to the fire mishap in the Falaknuma super fast express that gutted down 5 coaches near Bhongir on Friday. However all angles including any sabotage or conspiracy leading to the fire mishap, are also being probed into, said officials.

Based on the statements of the passengers on board, forensic experts thoroughly examined all the affected coaches, particularly the S4 coach, in which smoke was first noticed and later spread into a massive fire.

While examining the seat no 3 upper berth in S4, where the smoke was first noticed, forensic experts found a ‘bulb’ which is usually formed after an electric short circuit. Further, they have also found charred remains of a backpack, which the passengers told was placed in the upper berth at the time of noticing the smoke.

Other samples including residue, charred remains of belongings of passengers were also collected and are sent for forensic examination, to find out the exact cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, it was learnt that the loco pilot also has a mechanism to get alert of electrical short circuits in the train and take immediate action. In the case of Falaknuma express to, the loco pilot sensed some fault with the electrical wiring and stopped the train.

Passengers pulling the chain to stop the train and pilot also stopping the train after noticing some defect happened simultaneously, averting a major mishap, said the officials.
