US presidential elections spark illegal betting in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Betting on the outcome of Tuesday’s US Presidential elections has reached a peak and high-end bookies are targeting punters from all metro cities including Hyderabad.
Although cops have kept an eye on the activities, they are suspecting that the organizers are running the betting networks from Mumbai. Police is suspecting high levels of betting in Vijayawada, East and West Godavari districts.
Task Force DCP B. Limba Reddy said that all teams had been deputed to nab betting rackets in the city. “We are keeping an eye on regular bookies at Secunderabad, Maredpally, Old City and Begum Bazar localities. We are also monitoring the activities of online betting rackets,” he said.
Sources from the Old City said that domestic satta and matka rackets are secretly organising betting on the US Presidential elections. “Punters are betting on narrowing of the gap between Republican candidate Trump and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Expecting Hillary’s winning chances, the bookies are offering Rs 250 for every Rs 100 on Trump. Last week it was '500 for every '100 on him,” said a source.
Another source said that the odds for Ms Hillary Clinton were falling from Rs 20 to Rs 40 on every Rs100. “But Hillary is still the favourite among punters in the two Telugu states,” the source said.
Another police official from the city said that betting in the city had come down with the effort of special teams and the Task Force.
“As per our inputs, the betting reached a peak in a few districts of AP. We launched a search to nab the roots of the betting rackets in the city,” the official said.
A few satta/matka websites run by Mumbai gangs are also offering bets on the US Presidential elections.
