Hyderabad: Poor watch on MMTS
Hyderabad: The lack of CCTV cameras at MMTS stations is hampering efforts to identify criminals. “Two days back, there was a theft at the Begumpet station. We could not get any details as there was no CCTV camera,” said railway police officer Mohammed Basheeruddin. The lack of CCTVs at Lingampally and Hafe-ezpet stations is also a problem. Last month, the Government Railway Police nabbed a gang. A new gang is reported to be active there now.
“The gang enters compartments when trains stop and target lone passengers,” said a senior inspector, adding that passengers at stations have also fallen victim. “They enter MMTS trains with valid tickets and rob passengers and woman with children,” he said.
Security measures at MMTS stations are weak. They have become hub for drug addicts and peddlers. “Though the cases have decreased, we had incidents where the youths smoke weed at the stations,” said B. Sumathi, DCP, north zone. Mr Amit Dubey, a techie from Bolarum, said, “My cousin and I take the MMTS train from Secunderabad to go home. At nights, we have often seen people consuming alcohol and passing lewd comments.”
