Cops make no headway in chain snatching cases
Hyderabad: Even as multiple departments of the Hyderabad police are investigating chain-snatching incidents in Narayanguda and Jubilee Hills last month, the robbery near City Lights Hotel in Secunderabad late on Monday night caught them off-guard.
Suspects in Narayanguda and Jubilee Hills cases were riding motorcycles in the three cases, with the rider wearing a helmet and the pillion rider covering his face with a scarf. Except for a vague hint from their manner of operation that the suspects were members of an interstate gang, police were unable to gather much information.
While it is unlikely that the same gang was involved in Monday's incident, police are investigating whether the offenders are related to those involved in previous offences. In the robbery near City Lights Hotel, where the suspects on a bike attacked the victim with a knife and stole gold and diamond jewellery worth over Rs 27 lakh, police received some leads pointing to the involvement of repeat offenders.
The Narayanguda-Jubilee Hills bag-snatching was initially suspected of being involved in jewellery store heist in Nagole but this was ruled out with the arrest of the accused by the Rachakonda police on Wednesday. The duo stole approximately 20 tolas of gold jewellery from the employees of a jewellery store in Narayanguda. The suspects followed employees of another jewellery store from Panjagutta to Jubilee Hills Road 45 and stole their bag in the second offence. However, it was found that the bag was empty.
