Hyderabad: Autorickshaw Driver Held in 48 Hrs of Robbing Elderly Woman
Hyderabad: Within 48 hours of a robbery, the joint investigation conducted by personnel from Manchal Police and LB Nagar Central Crime Station (CCS) successfully solved the case on Wednesday. The police arrested an autorickshwa driver who was involved in the robbery.
On January 7, victim Kovvuri Lakshmi, 74, boarded a TSRTC bus from Sangareddy district at around 4.30 pm and alighted from the bus at MGBS. While waiting for an autorickshaw at MGBS, she was approached by an auto driver named Jatawat Mahesh. Mahesh assured her that he would drop her at her daughter’s house, said Arivind Kumar, LB Nagar DCP, quoting the accused.
While heading to Meerpet, Mahesh stopped the vehicle at Rangapur and robbed Lakshmi of her 29 grams of Pustela rope, rs 5,000 in cash, and a cellphone. Subsequently, Mahesh fled, the DCP added.
After narrating her ordeal to Masheswaram DCP Sunita Reddy, the victim approached the authorities. Two special teams were formed to track down the accused. The police identified the accused based on his vehicle’s registration number, and his location was traced to Manchal on Wednesday.
The police recovered the 29 grams of Pustela rope, Rs 1,500, and the looted mobile phone from the possession of the accused. The accused was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
