Karnataka: Four highway robbers arrested
Chikkamagaluru: A gang of highway robbers who had struck at different locations in the state were arrested by the Kadur police on Saturday before the gang could strike in their jurisdiction. However, a member of the gang escaped.
The gang had committed robberies in Ranebennur, Tumakuru, Yediyuru and other places. Around one-and-a-half months ago, the gang had looted Rs 85,000 under Birur police limits on the highway that passes through Birur and connects Shivamogga and Bengaluru.
A van, lethal weapons, chilli powder and Rs 15,000 cash were seized from the gang. The gang threw chilli powder on the face of victims and robbed them.
Acting on a tip-off that the robber gang was waiting to strike, a police team reached near G. Thimmapura Gate on Arasikere Road and confronted the gang. The gang members tried to attack the policemen but were overpowered.
Their identities will be revealed once the identification parade is conducted on Monday at the Birur police station, where a case against highway robbers has been registered.
