Police searching for absconding child marriage couple
NIZAMABAD: A 45-year-old man married a 13-year-old girl in Abbapur (B) thanda in Navipet mandal has absconded after women activists and officials from the women and child welfare department lodged a complaint with the police on the alleged child marriage. Navipet police registered a complaint and are searching for the man, who took the girl with him.
The man was identified as Sayab Rao of Maharashtra, who had migrated to
Fakeerabad in Navipet mandal of Nizamabad district two years ago. His wife
died recently and he has two sons, aged 15 and 18 years. He reportedly paid
Rs 60,000 to the father of the girl to perform the marriage. The victim’s mother had separated from the family.
The minor, a school dropout, was staying with her father, an agricultural labourer. The child marriage was performed on Friday night.
Police said that on hearing about the marriage, officials from the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), the child protection unit and reached Abbapur (B) Thanda to inquire. Noticing the arrival of the team Sayab Rao took the girl with him and drove away in a car.
