School worker arrested for rape bid on minor in Vizag
VISAKHAPATNAM: A 43-year-old man was arrested by Disha police in Visakhapatnam for allegedly attempting to rape a 14-year-old minor girl on the terrace of a private apartment in a colony under the Airport police station limits in
Vizag on Sunday.
Although the incident occurred on June 20, it only came to light on July 6
when the police received a complaint. The accused, K. Satya Rao, works as a
peon in the same school where the victim is also a student.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Disha Police) Ch. Vivekananda stated that
the accused and the victim’s family have been residing in an apartment in
Vizag for the past few years. The accused had befriended the girl, and on June 20, he took her to the terrace of the apartment where he allegedly attempted to rape her.
Since the incident, the girl has become withdrawn, refusing to engage with
people, including her own family members. When her mother persisted, the
girl disclosed her horrifying experience on the terrace of their house. Subsequently, the parents lodged a complaint with the Airport police in
Vizag. “Her father stated that she was sexually attacked and the girl
mentioned the names of some other individuals, whom we are currently trying
to locate,” the ACP said.
The accused has been booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal
Code (IPC) and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences
(Pocso) Act. The victim is currently receiving treatment at King George
Hospital in Vizag.
