Warangal: Two persons were arrested by the Wardhannapet Police after locals complained that they were making young women strip down by telling them that their occult prayers would help them conceive.
The accused were approached by ten women, five of whom were young and newly married. They made the women stand naked and recite mystical prayers. They chose a secluded area, under a bridge near the SRSP canal, on the outskirts of Katriyala village in Wardhannapet mandal of Warangal Rural district for their nefarious activities.
On Wednesday, the women were performing mystical prayers near the SRSP canal, with lemons, dry chillies and coconuts, when locals spotted them, grew suspicious, and informed the police. Some of the women were recognised as natives of Pedda Vangara village, Mahbubabad district.
CI Adinarayana said that Yadamma of Katriyala village, along with a male associate, had been performing black magic since a long time. They would make women believe that their prayers had the power to lift the curse that had rendered them childless.
The women were counselled by the police and advised not to believe in such superstitions. The matter is currently under investigation, and the police are trying to uncover additional details about the practices of the duo.
