Krishnagiri: Villagers foil attack bid on inter-caste marriage couple
KRISHNAGIRI: Alert villagers foiled a bid by three people who tried to attack their relative girl and her husband over an inter-caste marriage issue. On Wednesday night, local people found three youth moving suspiciously in Sampalpatti and caught them. They were handed over to the Sampalpatti police. The trio in the police station gave their names as G. Jagadeesh, 26, V.Vijay, 23 and B.Sathyaraj, 31, all belong to Keezh Theru in Shoolagiri, on Chennai-Bengaluru national highway here.
They also reportedly told police that the accused persons came to Sampalpatti with a plan to attack 26-year-old Lokesh for marrying their 20-year-old relative girl Lavanya. But, they were caught by the local villagers and handed over to the police before they could execute their plan, sources said. Lokesh belonging to the backward community and Lavanya, an OBC Vanniar community girl had fallen in love when the boy was working in Shoolagiri as driver, handling heavy earth moving machines.
The girl allegedly eloped with Lokesh two months ago after her parents informed their relatives about their marriage plan to Lavanya. The inter-caste couple got married in a temple and returned to Shoolagiri police station seeking protection for them as they feared trouble from Lavanya's relatives. Her relatives who met the girl in Shoolagiri police station tried to counsel her to leave Lokesh and return home with them. But, Lavanya decided to instead live with her husband and went to her in-laws house in Sampalpatti, sources added.
