KAKINADA: It is believed the Blade Batch has started its activities again, waylaying individuals at isolated places in Rajamahendravaram city and robbing them of their valuables.
Mosala Lakshman (35), a mechanic of Bobbilanka village, was returning home on Wednesday night after watching a second show. A gang chased him from Kambala Tank to Seethampeta and attacked him with iron roads. They snatched his phone and money and left him injured on the road.
Lakshman had initially been admitted to Rajamahendravaram Government Hospital and subsequently shifted to Government General Hospital at Kakinada. His wife, M. Devi, working as a volunteer, said her husband had been attacked by a Blade Batch Gang and injured severely. Saying her husband requires surgery and they belong to a poor family, she sought help from officials and political leaders in curbing the activities of the gang.
Rajamahendravaram circle inspector (CI) G. Madhubabu feels those who attacked Lakshman may not belong to Blade Batch, as all gang members are currently lodged in the Central Jail.
According to the CI, a family travelling by bike along the Seethampeta Road found Lakshman lying on the road with injuries beside the bike. They dialed 100 and police shifted the victim to the government hospital. The injured had apparently said he had been hit by an unknown vehicle from behind.
Madhubabu said police are trying to check out CCTV footage to find out the exact reason for the incident. Incidentally, CC cameras set up by the city administration have not been functioning for past six months. Police are searching for footage that could be available from cameras set up by private institutions and individuals along the route.
Three Town Police have registered a case.
