Man attacked by friends in Borabanda an accused in murder case

HYDERABAD: Patolla Rajeswar Reddy from Borabanda, who was attacked by his friends and received severe injuries two days ago, was involved in a murder case in the year 2015. He attacked a vegetable vendor with a stone and killed him. However, he was set free by the court, thanks to a shoddy investigation by the police.

What was more shocking was that CCTV cameras were installed near the place where the murder took place, but police did not collect the footage. “Police had not collected any footage from the CCTVs which would have proved the case beyond reasonable doubt,” pointed out the court, while delivering the final verdict in the year 2017.

Reddy first attacked the victim by hitting him with a stone on his head and chest and the victim died undergoing treatment around ten days later. The court found that the stone was not seized by the police while conducting inquest at the spot and it was seized only after the accused was arrested and on his confession.

It did not contain any blood stains. If it was used for attacking the victim, there should have been some incriminating material like blood or tissues of the victim found on the stone. “But the investigating officer did send the stone to the Forensic Science Laboratory(FSL) and it was not ascertained and proved scientifically that it was the weapon used in the offence. It is considered as a major lapse committed by the police in conducting the investigation,” observed the court.

The circumstantial evidence is also not convincing to prove the guilt of the accused in this case, said the court, setting the accused free.
