Andhra Pradesh forest officials book case against 3 for killing spotted moose

Kurnool: Forest officials of Bhakarapeta on Thursday booked a case against certain villagers of VR Puram Agraharam in Yerravaripalyam mandal of Tirupati district for killing a spotted moose and consuming its meat.

The moose had strayed from Seshachalam forest and entered the fields in VR Puram Agraharam on May 9. Former village sarpanch M. Chandra, Amuri Nageswara and Amuri Chinnabba have been found responsible for killing the moose.

Incidentally, a video of villagers catching the moose has gone viral on social media platforms. The moose killers also reportedly shared its meat with some villagers of Saibulapalli.

Initially, police and forest officials remained tight lipped about the killing. Finally, forest officials announced booking of the case against three persons, holding them responsible for killing of the moose.

Tirupati district forest officer said as per their inquiry, dogs had chased the moose when it came close to agricultural fields around 3 p.m. VR Agraharam villagers rescued the wild animal from the dogs. But they ended up killing it for their consumption.

A case has been registered against Nageswara, Chandra and Chinnabba under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
