Kurnool: 2 cops suspended for attack on home guard
KURNOOL: A street fight that brought shame to Kurnool police took place near the busy Rajavihar circle in the city has gone viral on social media. The incident that has triggered intense debate involves two serving constables hitting a home guard who was on traffic duty making passersby terrified at the attitude of the police. District SP A. Ravi Krishna on Saturday issued suspension orders to the two constables who belong to a special party.
In a statement the SP said, two constables who happened to be brothers, K. Mani Kumar and K. Manoj Kumar, special party constables have attacked a duty home guard S. Mohammed Hussain at Rajvihar circle in broad daylight with public looking on. As per police sources, the two brothers, stopped their motorcycle at the traffic signal near Rajvihar circle.
When the green light flashed, the two on motorbike did not move as they were speaking on phone. Other vehicles started to move. Sighting the motorbike not moving despite a green signal the home guard on duty signalled them to move ahead. Enraged by this, the two went straight to home guard and beaten him black and blue. They relentlessly rained blows on his body till passersby intervened.
All this was shot on CC camera and some mobile phone. Later, this video went viral by social media and reached the notice of Superintendent of Police Ake Ravi Krishna who had promptly suspended the two constables for their attack on home guard who was on duty. It was later found that the two brothers who got into the police force in 2013 were actually rowdy sheeters.
Rowdy sheets were opened against them earlier. People in the department were surprised how their names were cleared by the police department for recruitment despite their notorious background. It appears Kurnool has many such rowdy elements in uniform.
