Mother lives with son's dead body for three days
NELLORE: A dazed mother lived with the dead body of her 37-year-old son at their house in Fathekhanpeta of Nellore for three days without informing anyone about the death.
The incident came to light on Thursday after neighbours alerted police when they noticed a foul smell emanating from the house. Police rushed and shifted the decomposed body to Government General Hospital, Nellore.
Police, after interacting with the mother, suspect that she became mentally disturbed after her son’s death.
Chinna Bazar circle inspector Madhu Babu identified the deceased as Ch. Venkata Rajesh, 37, and his mother as Vijayalakshmi.
Rajesh’s father had expired a few years ago. He had been staying with his mother after an estranged relationship with his wife three years after their marriage. The couple had applied for divorce and the process is in progress. Rajesh’s elder brother had been living elsewhere with his family.
A postgraduate in agriculture science, Rajesh had lost his job. On September 5 night, he told his mother not to wake him up the next morning, as he was tired and wanted to sleep as long as possible. After waiting till 4 p.m. the next day, Vijayalakshmi tried to wake him up but in vain. Instead of alerting her elder son or neighbours about Rajesh’s death, Vijayalakshmi continued remaining in the house till September 8, when neighbours alerted police.
Investigating officer A. Saidulu said as no injuries have been found on the body of Rajesh, they are waiting for the postmortem report to ascertain whether it is a natural death or suicide.
