Rowdy gets 20 years for sexually assaulting minor
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam’s Special POCSO Court judge G. Anandi on Tuesday sentenced a 45-year-old rowdy-sheeter Shiekh Kasim to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in 2016.
The court also ordered a compensation of ₹4 lakh to the victim and slapped a fine of ₹15,000 on the convict.
Police said the victim girl and her brother used to stay at their home within the limits of Gajuwaka police station in Vizag city when their parents, both daily wage labourers, went for work.
On July 4, 2016, when the parents returned home in the evening, they did not find their children. While looking for her, they noticed their daughter coming from the house of rowdy-sheeter Shaik Kasim.
The victim told her parents that she had been sexually assaulted by Kasim.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim’s family, Gajuwaka police led by then inspector T. Emmanuel Raju registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of IPC and POCSO Act 2012.
