Kozhikode: The police arrested five men in the controversial incident of brutally beating up two others after stripping them naked near Vadakara.
The incident happened on November 12 at Muttungal, Chorod, where two young men, K. Rashid and Fajis, were barbarically beaten up after tying on a tree in a stripped state for an alleged affair of one of them with a girl.
The arrested are Najaf, Rayees alias Moideen, Afnas Thazhathu, Shammad and Ajnas, all aged between 20 and 26. They were caught from Bengaluru by a special squad team led by VadakaraCIT. Madhusoodhanan. They include relatives and neighbours of the girl. According to police, Mr Rashid, an auto driver, was called for a trip and brought to an isolated place near Meethalangady and severely thrashed.
Later his friend Mr Fajis was brought there. He managed to run away, and they dropped a severely beaten up Mr Rashid near his house in a precarious state. He later got hospitalised. The brutal incident drew flak which forced all the suspects to go underground.
Three others, Vivek, Sharafuddin and Unais who made arrangements for them to flee, got arrested earlier. There are a few more people involved in the case, and they are at large.
