Kerala police crack down on drug network
KOZHIKODE: The crackdown on the drug network in the city has paid rich dividends. During a 20-day special drive against drug users and narcotic suppliers, 128 cases were registered and 157 people arrested.
A total of 48 cases under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were registered and 48 arrested. Also, 75 abkari cases were registered and 102 arrested. Under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, six cases were registered and seven people arrested.
City Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar Gurudin said that the police targeted the supply side by identifying, conducting raids and registering cases. As part of the awareness drive, the district police conduct classes at vulnerable locations. Coupled with strong action, educating the youngsters about the risk of drug and alcohol abuse would be effective, he said.
