Hema Upadhyay case: Domestic feud murder motive, says chargesheet
Mumbai: The Kandivali police on Friday filed the chargesheet against all the accused in the Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambani’s double murder case. The list of accused included her husband artist Chintan Upadhyay. Earlier on March 5, the judicial custody of all the accused in the double murder case was extended till March 18, but on Friday it got extended till March 21.
According to sources, the chargesheet has expanded to 1,658 pages, which includes statements of as many as 60 witnesses, in the case. According to sources, the viscera report and chemical analysis of both the bodies are given in the chargesheet, while the report of electronic and digital evidence is not mentioned as the police has not received any from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) yet.
On the one hand, an official stated in the chargesheet that investigation is yet to be completed as several inquiries are still pending, while on the other hand, the official held the domestic dispute between Hema and Chintan to be the motive behind the murder.
The chargesheet mentions that a few SMSes were exchanged between Chintan and Vidhyadhar a few days prior to the murder. Police sources said that still investigation was going on and a supplementary chargesheet would also be filed after some time. While all the accused, including a minor who’s is in a juvenile home in Dongri, will get the chargesheet on either Saturday or Monday.
In the chargesheet, the police has mentioned three to four major points against Chintan, which include the statement of Shivkumar Rajbhar in which he had informed the police that they had committed the crime at the behest of Vidhyadhar. Vidhyadhar Rajbhar’s mother’s statement is also attached in the chargesheet, according to which he had called her after he fled the city, and told her that he had committed the crime on Chintan’s instruction.
According to sources, in the statements, a few relatives of Hema and Haresh has informed the police that Hema was scared during her last visit to Chintan and had told Haresh that he was planning some thing scary and “he will do something to me”.
Chintan’s domestic violence towards Hema and their property dispute over the Juhu flat, and the maintenance demand by Hema in a family court and high court over divorce was stated as the motive for the murder conspiracy.
The ‘alvida’ movie song which was shared by Chintan, a day prior to the murder, was an another ground for the police.
The details of CCTV footage of Andheri and Kandivali were mentioned in the chargesheet in which Hema was seen with Bhambani in Andheri and then with Vidhyadhar in Kandivali.
The chargesheet was produced by the police in Borivali metropolitan magistatre court. Pradeep Rajbhar, one of the accused in the double murder case, has given a confessional statement in which he informed and explained the whole murder conspiracy and details of the crime.
