VIJAYAWADA: Krishna SP P. Joshua said district police have arrested 317 peddlers and seized 497 kg of ganja from them in the past one year. He warned the smugglers that if they continue their act, they will be booked under the Preventive Detention (PD) Act and confined to jail.
Addressing a press meet at Machilipatnam on Tuesday, the SP said they kept special vigil on ganja transport and sales across the district. They registered cases against the peddlers in Kruthivennu, Vuyyuru, Gudivada, Gannavaram, Unguturu, Veeravalli and Hanuman Junction areas.
Joshua said under the instructions of Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and DGP K.V. Rajendranath Reddy, Krishna district police have in the past four years arrested 616 persons in connection with 219 ganja cases. Various case sheets have been opened against 203 of these peddlers.
The SP said police are organising awareness campaigns in colleges and schools to explain the adverse effects of using ganja and drugs. He warned that they will not spare anyone involved in ganja smuggling. He asked parents to keep a vigil on their children's behaviour to avoid difficulties in future.
