Moneylender Murdered and Set on Fire by Borrower Over Dispute on Interest Rates
Hyderabad: RGIA police on Saturday arrested one Rizwana Begum for setting on fire her moneylender Vadla Manjula, 45, at a housing layout near Shamshabad, after robbing her. The reason was said to be the victim charging a high rate of interest.
Some persons had alerted the RGIA police to a fire along the ORR at Shamshabad. On going to the spot, they found a woman’s burnt body. Following investigations, police identified the victim as Munjala, who had gone missing from her house in Rallagada Doddi on Friday. Her husband V. Lakshmaiah identified the body, said Shamshabad DCP N. Narayan Reddy.
Further investigations led the police to Rizwana Begum who was arrested at about 11 am from her house in Shamshabad. She told the police that she had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from Manjula five years ago and had asked for another loan of Rs 50,000.
When Manjula came to give the money, the two argued over the high interest rate. Manjula had asked Rizwana to prepare biryani for her. Rizwana threw red chilli powder into Manjula’s eyes, strangled her to death using a sari, stole her gold chain and the Rs 50,000, dumped the body at an open plot near her house and set it on fire. the DCP said.
