Cops crack mystery theft, nab two recover ₹60 lakh property

Vijayawada: Bapatla district police have cracked a mystery theft by arresting two and recovering ₹60 lakh worth property from them.

Explaining details of the case, Bapatla superintendent of police Vakul Jindal said

Kondamadugula Venkata Ramana Reddy of Modukuru village in Chundur mandal in Bapatla district complained on November 9 that he and his wife had their dinner, locked the middle room of their house, and slept in another room.

When they got up on November 10 at 4:15 a.m., they found the lock of middle room broken. The iron safe and all cupboards had been open. On checking, they found 1.5 kg of gold jewellery, 1 kg of silver pooja articles, a new TV and ₹12,000 in cash missing. Ramana Reddy complained to Chundur police who registered a case and started investigation.

Repalle sub-divisional police officer T. Muralikrishna formed special teams headed by district CCS inspector and Chundur circle inspector. They examined CCTV cameras in surrounding areas of Modukuru. Following further investigations, they arrested two old criminals – Tata Prasad alias Mamillapalli Sashikant, native of Ghantasala village and mandal in Krishna district, now residing at Chirravuru village in Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district; and Devara Abbanna alias Varma, resident of China Bethapudi village in Bapatla mandal, on Friday.

Vakul Jindal said the duo were arrested from Nandivelugu in Guntur district on Friday and the stolen property has been recovered.
