Bengaluru: A hit and run with a twist, police remain clueless
Bengaluru: The Indiranagar traffic police are trying to trace a woman driver and her hatchback car that rammed into a scooter of a 35-year-old startup entrepreneur on the Domlur flyover, leaving him grievously injured in the last week of February.
“The woman in her early twenties not only stopped her grey car, but also came up to me and said sorry. She said that she could not help me, because she had her exams to write and she was in a hurry and had to leave,” Anush Ramani, the victim, told Deccan Chronicle.
“The woman gave some money to an autorickshaw driver, who had stopped at the accident spot. I guessed that was to help me to get to a hospital, but later I thought, it could also to keep his mouth shut,” said Anush, adding that was the first and last time he saw her.
The accident occurred around 8.45 am on February 24 on the Domlur flyover when Anush was on his two-wheeler on his way to office in Domlur. He saw a speeding car trying to overtake and was giving way for the car when it rammed into his scooter.
Anush's father Venkat Ramani, a non-resident Indian, who flew down to the city from Sweden after he heard about the accident, said, “My son was taken in an ambulance to Manipal Hospital. The doctors said that his collar bone was smashed (at least in a dozen places) and had to undergo a surgery. He also has an injury in his knee and his entire left side had bruises.”
The Indiranagar traffic police took Anush's statement on February 28, but could not get enough information from him to trace the woman and her car. “The victim was dazed after the accident and he told us he could not remember the make or model of the car. There are no CCTV cameras on the stretch and it has become difficult for us to zero in on the car from the cameras of restaurants down the ramp, as the accident occurred during peak hour traffic,” said an investigating officer.
“We have asked Anush to get his bike to the police station and we will have it inspected by the RTO inspectors to gather some clues about the accident,” the officer added. It's been over two weeks since the accident and Anush has been discharged from the hospital. He is on bed rest at this flat in Diamond District and hopes that the police will soon trace the mystery woman driver and bring her to book.
