Police intensify vigil in interiors to track inter-state offenders

HYDERABAD: Summer is the time when offenders from Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan strike in Telangana, especially in the rural areas of the state. As a remedial measure, with summer on us already, district police officials have asked all station house officers (SHOs) to start canvassing in villages and distribute pamphlets urging the villagers to prevent offences in their respective areas. Every year, the inter-state offenders choose rural places, commit crimes and flee to their native places taking advantage of the summer season when most people spend time outside their houses at night.
Police officials stated that they have received inputs that inter-state offenders, who commit a series of crimes like chain snatching, property offences and burglaries, are planning to enter Telangana district. "To prevent such incidents, we have directed all SHOs in the district to increase night vigil by way of patrolling in all villages, getting in touch with village level police officers and assigning night beats for in remote areas," police officials said.

Recently, when Tungaturthy police (Suryapet district) were on night patrolling at Annaram, they saw two people moving around suspiciously and intercepted them. They recovered gold worth Rs four lakh from them.

Meanwhile, police also kept a close vigil on the more active inter-state operatives based on data available with them. The data has been circulated to all police stations for tracking their movements. The locals are also given contact numbers of police officers stationed in their areas.
