Thanjavur: Frenchman killed near Pattukottai
Thanjavur: A 69-year-old person from France was allegedly murdered by a youth of Avikottai village near Pattukottai. Madukkur police said, on the confessions of Thirumurugan of Avikottai who was arrested in the case on Sunday, a gunny bag packed with bones and ashes was recovered by the cops and Pattukottai tashildar, and sent to the Government hospital at Pattukottai for examination.
The accused reportedly confessed that the sack contained the mortal remains of a Frenchman, Pyare Bernard Robert Rane, 69, whom he had known while studying in a private Engineering college at Mamallapuram.
Rane had purportedly come to Tiruchy few days back, called Thirumurugan and asked if he could visit the latter's village.
The friend obliged, taking a car to pick up Rane. On way, the accused told the police both had some liquor, but Rane developed fits and died.
Thereupon, Thirumurugan reportedly confessed that he burnt Rane’s body at his house, packed the bones and ashes in a gunny bag and threw it under a tamarind tree near his village.
Police secured Thirumurugan based on a note found in a bag containing the passport of Rane at a paddy field at Olayakunnam village near Madukkur. Further probe is on.
