Bengaluru: A family of four was killed, while another escaped with injuries in a head-on collision between a speeding car and a BMTC bus near ISRO Junction on Old Airport Road on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Laveen (24), the driver of Santro Zing car, his mother Nirmala (52), who was sitting in the front seat, and Elsamma (52) and Reena (50). Sreeja (53), another relative, escaped with injuries. All were residents of Munnekolala in Marathahalli.

A senior police officer said that the accident took place around 2.30 pm when the family was returning to Marathahallli after attending a function in Ulsoor. Laveen was believed to be speeding and driving rashly at the time of accident. As the car crossed ISRO Junction and reached Doddanekundi junction, he lost control and tried to swerve the car. But it went extreme right and collided head-on with the BMTC bus heading towards HAL from Vaidehi Bus Depot.

"The impact killed Laveen and Nirmala on the spot. Reena and Elsamma died at the hospital due to head injuries. The car was reduced to a scrap and it took nearly an hour for the police to pull the car out. All the passengers in the bus are safe," the police officer said.

Laveen's father was working as a clerk in a private firm. The HAL police shifted the bodies to Jeevika Hospital and informed their family members. The police have sought a medical report to ascertain whether Laveen was drunk at the time of accident.
