Anantapur: In a major breakthrough, Anantapur Rural police cracked the robbery case near Garladinne on the national highway 44 on August 22 by arresting a six-member gang on Tuesday.
Among those arrested are two head constables of armed reserve police, one from Hyderabad and the other from Kadapa. Police have recovered ₹1.80 crore from the gang, apart from seizing two cars.
Anantapur SP K. Sreenivasa Rao told media that SRR, a construction company, had complained that its company vehicle carrying ₹2 crore in cash had been waylaid by a gang in police uniform near Garladinne. The company was transporting money from Bengaluru to Hyderabad in an Innova vehicle.
The gang looted ₹2 crore cash and fled in another car.
The SP said Kunche Venkateswarlu, a native of Nellore working as AR head constable in Hyderabad, had access to SRR company drivers G. Vijay Kumar of Ranga Reddy and Revanth Kumar of Annamayya districts. Through them, Venkateswarlu got information that the company is going to transport cash on August 22.
Venkateswarlu approached Venugopal Reddy of Kadapa and took support of another armed reserve head constable Subbarama Raju of Kadapa, apart from Suryanarayana Raju and Maheswara Raju.
Based on information received from driver Revanth, the gang waylaid the Innova carrying the cash and looted the money.
