Panyam police bust gang trying to grab Rs 14 cr worth of govt lands

Anantapur: The police of Panyam have thwarted a plan by land grabbers to tamper with revenue records and grab Rs 14 crore worth of lands spread over 160 acres in Pinnapuram village in Panyam mandal of Nandyal district. Three persons were arrested.

Police said they launched a hunt for revenue inspector Avula Seshadri, the prime suspect who led the process of tampering of revenue records in the tahsildar’s office.

K Nageswar Rao, Guvvala Venkataramana and R Venkataramana of Pinnapuram hatched the plan to grab the government lands located closer to the Greenco Solar plant. The gang approached RI Avula Seshadri. “He masterminded the efforts to tamper with the revenue records in the permanent register of RSR.”

The gang included 19 persons who conspired to change the revenue records vis-a-vis ownership with a view to taking huge compensations from Green Co during the land acquisition process.

The revenue inspector made it easy for the gang to get ownership, police said after an investigation.

“The total land was of 160 acres and worth Rs14cr as per market value. The gang tried to get at least Rs 10 lakh as compensation per acre,” police said.

The Panyam police arrested Nageswar Rao, Guvvala Venkata Ramana and R Venkata Ramana of Pinnapuram area and launched a hunt for the prime suspect A Seshadri.

Last year, the gang had created fake aadhar cards and death certificates to grab eight acres of valuable land in the same village.
