Visakhapatnam: 20-year-jail for minor girl rape

Visakhapatnam: A special judge for Pocso court in Visakhapatnam, G Anandini on Tuesday sentenced a 24-year-old man to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in January 2022 in Anakapalle district.

The judge also directed the government to pay Rs 4 lakh compensation to the victim and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict.

Anakapalle district police chief K.V. Murali Krishna said that G. Nagesh, a native of Nakkapalli mandal and a driver by profession, kidnapped the minor girl when she went to a cashew orchard to collect firewood and sexually assaulted her on January 20, 2020.

Based on the complaint from the parents of the victim, the police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of IPC and Pocso Act, 2012. A charge sheet was submitted before the court. As the allegations were proved, the judge announced 20 years of imprisonment to Nagesh.
