Kochi: No charge sheet yet in online sex racketing case
Kochi: Even after three months since the arrest of Rahul Pashupalan and his wife in the sensational online sex racketing case, the police is yet to file a charge sheet against the accused.
The delay in filing a charge sheet may enable the accused to get bail in the case. The High Court is set to consider the bail application of the duo on Monday. The accused were formally arrested on November 18, 2015 after the police nabbed them in connection with running a sex racket case and even trafficking minors for sex trade.
The police points to the foreign connections in the case and collection of evidence is behind the delay in the case. "More than one lakh phone calls have to be analysed and there are photos of young girls used on internet by the accused. We need to analyse the entire data before filing a charge sheet,” said IG S Sreejith who is heading the investigation.
He said that the police is not after one single person. “A particular accused getting bail in a case is not our concern. We want to crack the entire trafficking cases and bring accused to justice.”
Rahul and Reshmi are booked under 366 A (procuration of a minor girl), 370(1) (exploitation of a trafficked person), 120 B (criminal conspiracy), various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012 and sections under IT act. Earlier, the Sessions Judge, Thiruvananthapuram had dismissed the bail plea of the two.
