Cyber police recover money from online fraudsters in Mulugu
WARANGAL: Cyber crime police officers recovered money allegedly lost by a person through online cheating in Mulugu district on Monday.
Dhodde Dilip, a resident of Narsapur village in Venkatapur mandal, received a call from the fraudsters claiming to have won Rs 1,000 through reward applications and would receive the money by sending Rs 500. Dilip, who sent Rs 500, received Rs 1,000 from them.
The fraudsters then gradually increased the amount in the initial stages of sending him money, eventually collecting Rs 35,000 from Dilip and blocking his phone number. Dilip, who realised he had been duped, filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Branch of the police.
The police officers who launched an investigation recovered Rs 10,000 from the fraudsters using advanced technology. They also are trying to find out more about online fraudsters.
The district superintendent of police, Gouse Alam, urged people not to be duped into giving their bank account information to online fraudsters in the name of winning lotteries, gifts, and reward amounts and losing money.
If people are cheated in unexpected circumstances by online fraudsters, they must rush to the nearest police station and file a complaint as soon as possible so that justice can be served, he added.
