Dalit Congress leader attacked during victory event

ADILABAD: Shakeel, a Congress minority wing president of Adilabad town, reportedly attacked another party leader, Mekala Prashanth, with a rod during the celebration of the Congress party’s victory in the Karnataka Assembly polls at Vinayak Chowk in the Adilabad town, on Saturday. Prashanth, who is a Dalit, lodged a police complaint against Shakeel.

Shakeel belongs to DCC president Sajid Khan’s group while Prashanth is a member of TPCC state secretary Gandrath Sujatha’s group. Following the attack, leaders and cadre of the two groups engaged in pulling and pushing.

Prashanth suffered an injury to one of his ears in the attack.

Senior leaders present at the spot were shocked by the sudden attack. They tried to snatch the rod from Shakeel and also pacified the two groups.

It is learnt that both Shakeel and Prashath had recently engaged in fiery arguments over an issue on social media.
