Telangana Judo officer held for medical scam
Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday arrested TS Judo Association general secretary B. Kailasam Yadav under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the scam involving medical seats in the sports quota.
ACB officers conducted searches at the Judo Association office in LB Stadium and Yadav’s residence in Khila Warangal.
The ACB said Yadav was the conduit of bribes that TS Sports Authority (SATS) deputy director G. Venkata Ramana took to provide seats to ineligible persons. Ramana was arrested last month and is in judicial custody.
The scam came to light when a sportsperson who was eligible for a medical seat under the sports quota approached the Chief Minister’s Officer to complain about irregularities in the process. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao directed the ACB to inquire.
During investigations, the ACB found that out of 11 MBBS seats under sports quota for 2017-18 (an additional seat is meant for a non-local candidate), seven were bagged by candidates from Warangal district of whom four furnished judo certificates.
“The probe found that Venkata Ramana used Kailasam Yadav demanded and collected a bribe of Rs 4 lakh from one Thota Sunil Kumar, father of T. Rudraswaroop, for arranging a seat in a medical college under the sports quota,” an ACB officer said.
The duo collected Rs 2 lakh from Mr Sunil Kumar and when they began to pressurize him for the remaining amount he filed a complaint with the ACB against Yadav.
The ACB has asked citizens to lodge complaints regarding irregularities on WhatsApp number 7382629283.
